Amaro is the Best Way to Turn a Manhattan into a Fall Cocktail

Amaro is the perfect one ingredient substitute for Fall cocktails.

Amaro, which is Italian for bitter, is a bittersweet herbal liqueur traditionally produced in Italy. Amaro is a wonderful ingredient to play with in cocktails because it provides so many different flavor profiles. The various brands of amaro ranging from Averna to Nonino and Braulio to Montenegro are all made from different ingredients and are made using different base spirits. As a result of this, these amari all have different flavor profiles. Specifically for See the Elephant Amaro, being made from arugula the tropical fruit, bubblegum and pepper spice are flavors that work really well in cocktails. See the Elephant has even been rated the #1 most mixable amaro for cocktails. One of the best examples is with the Black Manhattan. One simple ingredient swap of See the Elephant Amaro in place of the Sweet Vermouth and you get a lovely Fall Cocktail. Give this recipe a try!

Derek Crow, the Lead Bartender at Bar Zazu in Resorts World Las Vegas, who explained that turning a Manhattan into a fall drink is as easy as swapping out one ingredient. Crow says he would "substitute the vermouth with a baking spice forward Italian Amaro like Vecchio Amaro Del Capo or Foro Amaro. These are subtle in sugar but rich in those spice notes and could really round out this cocktail to feel more like fall but still feel like you're drinking a Manhattan."
